Bangor Needs Local Policing. A Call to Reopen Our Station!

Since the closure of the enquiry office at Bangor police station, there has been a noticeable decline in visible policing and a growing sense of concern among residents and local businesses. This closure, announced in 2023 as part of wider cuts across Northern Ireland, has effectively weakened the link between the community and its local policing team.
Since that change, reports of crime and anti-social behaviour in Bangor appear to be rising. Many business owners are speaking out, describing incidents of vandalism, theft, and public disorder that seem to occur almost daily. There is a real and growing feeling that the police presence in the town has diminished not just in terms of access to services, but also in visibility and effectiveness.
This situation cannot be allowed to continue. The people of Bangor deserve a properly resourced and accessible police service. I am calling on local MPs, the Northern Ireland Executive, and the leadership of the PSNI to urgently review this decision and take meaningful action to restore confidence in local policing.
Bangor is a growing city with a population that relies on strong, responsive policing. Without visible and accessible police services, crime and anti-social behaviour will continue to rise, and public trust will continue to erode. The time to act is now.
Why is this important?
It’s more important than ever that we come together as a community to call for change. This is about sending a clear message to decision makers that Bangor deserves proper police presence, quick response times, and a service that is visible and accessible to everyone.
By signing this petition, you’re not just adding your name you’re standing up for Bangor. You’re helping to show that this issue affects real people, every day. The more signatures we gather, the better.
This is about community safety, local pride, and ensuring that Bangor is treated fairly when it comes to policing and public services. So please, sign the petition, share it with friends, family, and neighbours, and let’s make sure our town’s voice is heard loud and clear.
