Better Saturday bus services for Warrenpoint
The Warrenpoint–Newry Saturday bus service offered by Translink is inadequate.
We call on Translink to introduce an hourly daytime Saturday service on the Number 39 route between Warrenpoint and Newry, together with improved evening services and connections.
Why is this important?
On Saturdays the Number 39 bus between Warrenpoint and Newry runs only every two hours.
What should be a vital transport link becomes a barrier to work, shopping, visiting friends and relatives, attending events, and connecting with rail and bus services from Newry to Belfast, Dublin and elsewhere.
Public transport is particularly important for younger people, older people, those on lower incomes, and anyone without access to a car. For many people, the bus is not a convenience but a necessity.
We call on Translink to:
- Review the Saturday Number 39 service between Warrenpoint and Newry and introduce an hourly daytime service.
- Remove unnecessary barriers to bus use, including peak-time fares on Saturday morning services and improve Warrenpoint-Newry amd onward rail and bus services
While this petition focuses on Warrenpoint, the Number 39 route also serves Rostrevor and Kilkeel. Better Saturday services would improve access to jobs, services, leisure opportunities and visitor destinations across South Down, including Kilbroney Park.
