Give Northlands their million pounds

Deliver the one million pounds promised in the New Decade New Approach agreement for the Northlands Centre in Derry to support their work tackling addiction.

Why is this important?

The Northlands Centre in Derry supports thousands of people and families suffering from addiction. The care and support they provide to people at their lowest point saves lives, it helps their families and their communities.

The Department of Health recently withdrew core funding for Northlands despite the life saving work they do in our community.

We are calling on the Executive to now honour the commitment in New Decade New Approach, an international agreement signed by the British and Irish Governments, to provide additional financial support for Northlands.

The Department of Health is betraying the letter and spirit of that agreement by withdrawing funding. The million pounds promised to Northlands needs to be delivered now.

Derry was promised one million pounds for the Northlands Centre in the New Decade New Approach agreement. The Department of Health has no authority to rip up that commitment. That's why I have written to the First and deputy First Ministers, the Secretary of State and the Tánaiste this week urging them to clarify if they stand by the promise to our city and who exactly gave DoH the right to pull back from funding addiction services. We will not stand for this.
